DESCRIPTION
|
|
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program educates clinicians for leadership roles in a specialized area of advanced practice with emphasis on: 1. Philosophical, ethical, and scientific principles that provide the foundation for leadership in professional nursing care;
2. Continued acquisition of knowledge and clinical skills in an area of advanced practice specialization;
3. Analysis and examination of practice including completion of the Residency Project during the clinical residency year. The DNP curriculum is Web-mediated and includes opportunities for synchronous and asynchronous learning. Students are only required to be on campus 4 times during a year (July, December, January, and April) for 5-7 days each session. With faculty approval, clinical courses can be completed in the student's state of residence.

Students must have access to a computer and demonstrate minimum capabilities for computer literacy.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
|
|
Students must possess the following capabilities:
1. Installing and configuring software
2. Accessing the Internet (connecting via an Internet Service Provider)
3. Utilizing Internet resources such as email (sending and receiving messages, subscribing to listservs, opening attachments) and the World Wide Web
4. Uploading and downloading files
5. Printing
6. Troubleshooting common problems
Recommendations for minimum hardware, software, and Internet can be located at on the web site. The Computing and Telecommunications Department offers technology-related services to students and includes five divisions: Computing Services, Oracle Application Development, Networking Services, Customer Technology Support, and Telecommunications.

ACCESS TO LEARNING RESOURCES
|
|
The UTHSC Bookstore is located at 910 Madison Avenue and can be reached at 901.448.5623 (telephone) or 901.448.7259 (fax). The staff provide the most comprehensive and current resources to the nursing community and maintains online access with capabilities to inquire, search, and place orders to the 30,000+ inventory.
The Health Sciences Library and Biocommunications Center offers a variety of electronic resources to include Open Access to scientific literature. The Library is located at 877 Madison Avenue and can be accessed by telephone at 901.448.5634 or from the web site.
Student Academic Support Services (SASS) promotes student progress in the College of Nursing through a variety of services designed to facilitate learning and enhance student performance. Some of these services include time management, test taking, reading efficiency, note taking and note using, information retention, organization for learning, and preparation for board exams. ACCESS TO FINANCIAL AID RESOURCES

Students are eligible for loans and scholarship awards from various sources. Traineeships are available to a limited number of graduate students through the Professional Nurse Traineeship Program.
